I’ve been reading a bit this week about various folks opinions on the concept of gratitude, and I’m thinking perhaps genuine gratitude requires reciprocation, action, movement… If I’m genuinely grateful for something don’t I take care of it? If I’m grateful for a relationship shouldn’t I invest time in it? I’ve picked up my yoga practice again over the last month and one of the things that has moved me the most is a moment of gratitude at the end of every session. I can’t help but wonder how “rhythms” of true gratitude would change our lives and our minds. Maybe there’s a reason we should mark meals and days and seasons with moments of gratitude, and that those would overflow into more tender care, attention, and time. If you’re scrounging for something to be grateful for I would recommend standing beside the buckwheat and watching the honeybees. Something about tiny industrious creatures, oblivious to our own fumbling, always makes me feel a bit lighter.
