A love letter to the worms and toads and beetles of the earth:
Such small creatures, overlooked, avoided or crushed by unkind souls.
Yet you reveal yourselves quietly to me.
Always trusting, always hoping, always believing the very best in us.
Bring your tired little body, torn wings, and writhing dusty frame.
I’ll hold you tenderly in my palm.
I’ll pluck the gravel from your sticky edges, or rinse the dust from your plump little body, oh weary little travelers.
Come and find rest.
Come and be seen, be spoken to tenderly, and be sent on your way.
Don’t we all wake up one day to find ourselves scorned? Don’t we all yearn for someone to see every ugly part of us, and hold us tenderly instead of turning away in disgust?
Come and find rest, weary little creatures, and remind us what it is to be beautiful to one another.
