Leaving home (and the farm) is a big effort in many ways. This was our first vacation in four years so I’d forgotten just how much goes into a week long trip. From driving hundreds of miles, paying for fuel and food and housing, coordinating with family on travel plans, and confirming with coworkers and friends that all of our obligations and critters back home would be cared for, sometimes it feels like it takes two weeks to prepare to leave. It seems like an overwhelming amount of hurdles. But once I got here I realized I couldn’t afford to miss this. Find the things that are so precious to you that no cost is too high, and whatever you do, don’t let go.
