This week we’ve been caught in rainstorms twice. Monday we watched storm clouds blow in and every round we made with the crimper we would say, “just one more lap.” And then again on Wednesday we had a shower come in just as we finished planting beans. I certainly get a little jolt of adrenaline when a storm rolls in. I find myself rushing to get back to the barn, checking that certain doors are shut, animals are all settled…and yet the horses don’t seem to mind. They amble back to the barn without a single care. I can’t help but wonder if they have the right idea. Perhaps when things are in turmoil the best thing to do is to plod along at a familiar pace, taking everything in stride. Maybe for all of my rushing and all of my fretting, I make things worse. Not every drop of rain warrants a racing pulse. The next time you find yourself underneath a storm cloud move slowly, consciously, intentionally. The horses may have the right idea after all.
