The Dreamers

I try to live a balanced life, but I must admit I used to be a bit of a dreamer, and some days it was a challenge to keep my feet on the ground. Even as a kid I often lived in some idyllic future, struggling to get out of my head and stay in the present. That’s part of why I love this work. Many times it requires my full attention and it keeps me grounded. But I also think plenty of folks live from the eternal optimism that is ”next season” where storms, pests or disease are all held at bay. For just a breath everything safe, and under our control. The vision of what is possible can be a wellspring of hope. But we can’t live solely from that place, it has to move us from longing into action. And we can’t abandon what is right in front of us just because it isn’t how we envisioned it would it would be. Sometimes we just have to do the next right thing that’s in front of us, and trust that this movement will lead us to the next step. I don’t know what good work is in store for each of you this week, but I do absolutely believe that there is a choice for each of us to dream in full color, and use fuel on dreary days, tugging at us like a thread that keeps us on track until the next step in our own work reveals itself.
